Dried Biodynamic Lion’s Mane

(Hericium erinaceus) Lions Mane / Pom Pom / White Cloud Mushroom are common names for Hericium erinaceus. This is an important edible mushroom with significant medicinal properties. This mushroom is rich in some physiological components, especially β-glucan polysaccharides. Lion’s mane polysaccharides are responsible for the anti-cancer, immuno-modulating, hypolipidemic, antioxidant and neuro-protective activities within this mushroom.

Both the mycelium and the fruiting bodies contain bioactive compounds with medicinal efficacy. Recent evidence demonstrates Hericium’s highly significant impact upon various diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease, immunoregulatory disorders and many types of cancer. Hericium also possesses anti-microbial, anti-hypertensive, anti-diabetic and wound healing properties.

Oral applications for Hericium:

Used to treat dementia, depression, anxiety, Parkinson disease, multiple sclerosis, and evidence suggests an overall improvement in mental function and memory. Hericium is used in the treatment of swelling of the stomach (gastritis), stomach ulcers, H. pylori infection, diabetes, cancer research, high cholesterol and weight loss.

Hericium Erinaceus is in some cases also applied to the skin as a skyptic substance for wound healing. Culinary uses; used widely in Chinese and Japanese dishes. Edible as a raw mushroom in salads and other uncooked dishes. Drying Hericium brings out a sweet caramel side to this mushroom.

Please note:

If you are considering a course of Hericium and have any health conditions then please consult your GP beforehand.

Diabetes: Hericium Erinaceus may lower blood sugar levels. Watch for signs of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) and monitor your blood sugar carefully if you have diabetes and use Hericium Erinaceus.

Surgery: Hericium Erinaceus may slow blood clotting. Stop using Hericium Erinaceus at least 2 weeks before any scheduled surgery.

Medicinal Use

Hericium Erinaceus

The mushroom as well as the fermented mycelia have been reported to produce several classes of bioactive molecules, including polysaccharides, proteins, lectins, phenols, and terpenoids. Most interestingly, two classes of terpenoid compounds, hericenones and erinacines, from fruiting bodies and cultured mycelia, respectively, have been found to stimulate nerve growth factor (NGF) synthesis
Recently, many studies have shown that polysaccharides from mushrooms have substantial medicinal properties and no toxic side effects, unlike many existing chemotherapeutic anticancer treatments. Edible mushrooms have, therefore, been used to develop alternative medicines for health care, especially as support in anti-cancer therapies (Ramberg et al. 2010). Scientists have also screened the antimicrobial properties of mushrooms to find a solution for antibiotic drug resistance in human pathogenic microorganisms
